Artist Statement
In my typical process, lines and shapes emerge on the surfaces of the materials I work with. I place them, yet I don't claim full credit for their presence. Much like navigating the day-to-day, each mark responds to what already exists. Sometimes I mediate or calm the conversation; other times I extend it or even begin anew. Each choice is made in the present moment and leads to the next mark.
Through the choice of color, thickness, and depth of each line scored on the surface, combined with the degree of transparency that lies under the horizontal surface, I reflect my voice. Intention and outcome don't always align, yet once visible, the marks harmonize to form a new interpretation of reality.
I feel a certain responsibility when etching plexiglass, because each line cannot be undone. This permanence reminds me to choose my words and actions with care and sincerity.
In this way, my work becomes a visual diary—a transparent record of times passed, layered with responses and connections. It mirrors the everyday exchanges and conversations that shape our existence. Through these layers I continue to seek and derive meaning, to capture not only my own experiences but rather a shared essence of living.
